Maui Wedding on Haleakala Summit

I first met Liz and Jeff in Maui. I was excited to be invited to join them during their wedding weekend. What a unique, intimate and personal wedding above the clouds with their daughter Ruby, an officiant and 2 best friends. What better way to share their self-written vows and join hands in marriage. Ruby helped with music and also was in charge of the rings, never not smiling, and she has such a wonderful personality. Congratulations Liz, Jeff and Ruby!

Dear Ms. Allen,

I am a good friend of Liz's from way back. These are lovely photos! I'm so happy that you posted them here.

If I'm ever in Hawaii and need a photographer, I'll be sure to look you up.

All best, Karla Leybold-Taylor

I love the picture of the couple with the sun setting behind them. I also found myself drawn to the lines in the picture of the road with the rock wall in the bottom right corner. I wonder if, as a professional, you plan these things ahead of time or notice them afterwards.

Hi Karla!

Thank-you for your kind words. Liz and Jeff are the best! I am actually located in Los Angeles, but, would go back to Hawaii for "work" anyday!

Joanna,

Thanks for your comments and I'm glad you like the photos.
To be ABOVE the clouds at sunset was spectacular!

To answer your question, If I work for a magazine or a book cover, I have to plan the general concept and ideas beforehand. With weddings, I don't really plan anything. I just show up and take photos that I think look great. Right as I was about to take the road photo, one red car drove by, which I thought was great.

Happy New Year!
Joan

The photos are so crisp and vibrant. You perfectly captured the wedding while also bringing the exact feel of the Haleakala Summit to life. Your photos take me back there. The beauty of the ceremony is captured by each shot which is as unique as the ceremony itself.

Great work Joan!
